Volunteer Opportunites

Below is a listing of ongoing volunteer opportunities at COTA Health. Please note that a 6 month minimum commitment is requested for all placements, after which volunteers may request a new placement as a way to acquire different skills and experience. Most placements require a commitment of 2-3 hours per week, though there may be flexibility depending upon client needs. 

To learn more about our volunteer opportunities, please register for an upcoming Volunteer Information Session. Upcoming sessions will be announced shortly.

Some positions may not be immediately available, but we still encourage you to apply to any and all that you are interested in. Be sure to specify the role(s) that are of interest to you on your application form. 

Visiting Volunteers

Volunteers with various skills and time availability are needed for one weekly visit to our clients. Male and female volunteers are needed in all parts of the city of Toronto.
  • Duties include Visiting clients in a home setting, accompany client on walks, escort into community, provide emotional support, engage in social activities to reduce isolation, accompany client to local mall or coffee shop.
  • Our clients are adults with mental health and/or developmental challenges.
  • Minimum time commitment requested: Six months. Two - four hours per week.
  • At COTA Health all volunteer positions required a clear police check background.

Acquired Brain Injury Adult Day Services

Looking for volunteers to assist group facilitator to engage clients in meaningful activities, explore strengths and develop diverse skills.
Volunteers need to commit at least one 12-week term with the ABI group
Days and time: Mondays or Fridays. From 12:30 to 4:00 pm
Location: Providence Healthcare, 3276 St. Clair Ave. E., Scarborough

The ABI group is a specialized program for individuals aged 18 to 64 affected by Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)

Stroke Recovery Group

Looking for volunteers to assist the stroke group facilitator. The Stroke Recovery Group is a recreational/support group for people coping with effects of a stroke.
Duties involve: encourage clients to take part in group activities, set up rooms for activities, serve coffee, assist with lunch, and participate in outings.

The Stroke Recovery group meets every Wednesday from 12:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. near Sherbourne subway station.

Minimum required commitment 6 months.

On call General Administrative and Clerical Assistance

Looking for team players willing to learn new skills to assist with clerical duties at our busy office mid town Toronto. Duties may involve filing, photocopying, collating materials, mailings, making up file folders, compiling volunteer orientation packages and data entry. Computer skills, ability to take direction, reliability, strong interpersonal skills, flexible to perform a variety of tasks are an absolute must for this position.
